7 DAYS PRIMATES EXCLUSIVE

Gorilla Trekking in Uganda.jpg

Uganda has the highest concentration of primate species on the continent, with 15 diurnal and seven nocturnal species listed, and is home to more than half of the world's mountain gorillas. Because of gorillas and chimps, Uganda has become a popular destination for wildlife photographers and naturalists.

The Adventure of hiking into the tropical rainforest jungles to see the endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park on Virunga mountains slopes is an experience like no other.  Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of Uganda’s most important rainforests and is home to over 542 mountain gorillas, and 19 habituated gorilla groups available for the gorilla trekking experience.

The best place to see chimpanzees and several other small primates is in Kibale National Park. Kibale is particularly rich in primates, with 13 species present, the highest concentration of primates in Africa. The nine diurnal primates in Kibale include vervet, red-tailed, L’Hoest’s and blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, endangered red colobus, black-and-white colobus, olive baboon, and chimpanzee.

DAY 1: Pick Up from airport and Hotel Check-In (47km to Kampala)

Our staff will meet you at the airport for pick-up and transfer to a booked hotel of your choice in Kampala or Entebbe for some much-needed relaxation, and if time permits, we will take you on a city tour for an exciting introduction visit. The fresh air from Africa's largest freshwater lake (Lake Victoria) will welcome you to a warm and welcoming Kampala city experience, complete with historical site tours, shopping, culinary, and nightlife adventures.

DAY 2: Road Trip to Kibale Forest (331km)

After an early breakfast, we will embark on a 5-hour journey to Kibale Forest, the world's primate capital. The ride leads you through the countryside to the lovely tourism city of Fort Portal, where you can have lunch at the Gardens restaurant or any other location recommended by your tour guide.

Then, in the afternoon, we'll have a nature walk through the Bigodi Swamp, which offers one of the best safari experiences with its abundance of butterflies, plants, animals' birds, and, in particular, elusive species like Red Colobus monkeys, before arriving at our resort for check-in and overnight. Isunga Lodge, Kibale Forest Camp, Koi Koi Village, or Chimps' Nest are some of the places to stay.

DAY 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest. (15km)

After having our breakfast, we'll go chimpanzee trekking to Kibale Forest's most popular activity, "the Kanyanchu primates walk." The park is brimming with a wonderful mix of beautiful landscape views and a wide range of exciting tourist activities. Hiking through the tropical forest with an experienced ranger guide will provide an unforgettable and rewarding experience in search of man's closest relatives, the Chimpanzees, as well as rear sights and sounds of a diverse range of forest birds and other twelve primate species that make up the beautiful ecosystem.

Vervet, red-tailed, L'Hoest's, blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, red colobus, black and white colobus, olive baboon, and the chimpanzee are among the nine diurnal primates. Be prepared for exciting primate encounters and incredible rainforest wall experiences on this excursion. Our day will be capped off with dinner and a campfire at one of our lodging lodges: Isunga Lodge, Kibale Forest Camp, Koi Koi Village, or Chimps' Nest are some of places to stay.

DAY 4: Road Trip to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest via Kyambura Gorge (258 km)

After an early breakfast, we will travel to Bwindi via Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park, a 100-meter-deep, buried underground tropical rain forest setting with breathtaking grandeur in contrast to the surrounding cascading cliffs and savannah grasslands. You may track one of our closest animal relatives, the chimpanzee, while you're here. The chimp population is highly mobile, so viewing is uncertain, but the walk itself is delightful.

Following the two-hour Kyambura Gorge excursion, we will travel to the far west for a gorilla trekking expedition, stopping for lunch along the way and sharing dinner before retiring for the night at one of the recommended mid-range lodges, such as Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge.

DAY 5: Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (15km)

Our gorilla trekking expedition will begin after breakfast at one of the five trailheads in the misty hours of the morning. We'll bring a packed lunch because we don't know how long the walk will take, but following the briefing, we'll be assigned a specific gorilla family to track and will be accompanied by a professional ranger.

Bwindi has the highest diversity of tree species (over 200 species including 10 endemics) and ferns (some 104 species) in East Africa and is home to almost half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, it represents a conservation frontline as an isolated forest of outstanding biological richness surrounded by an agricultural landscape supporting one of the highest rural population densities in tropical Africa.

So, while you're out on an exciting Gorilla trekking adventure, keep an eye out for some of the world's most endangered species, such as the chimp, L'Hoest's monkey, and African forest elephant; birds like the African green broadbill, Grauer's swamp warbler, Turner's Eremomela, Chapin's flycatcher, and Shelley's crimson-wing; and butterflies like the African giant swallowtail and Cream-banded swallowtail. Once you've located the gorillas with the help of your guide and trackers, you're only allowed to stay with them for one hour before returning to the starting point, where you'll have dinner and relax at the chosen lodge.

DAY 6: Road Trip to Kampala for Departure via Lake Bunyonyi (551 km)

In the early morning after a healthy breakfast, we will start the journey to Entebbe/Kampala with a stopover at Lake Bunyonyi, lunch in Mbarara city and the Equator monument for a viewing and photo experience.  This will mark the end of your Uganda primates Safari with a night at a selected hotel/lodge before boarding your next day flight.

DAY 7:  Hotel Pick Up for Departure (47Km)

Enriched with an experience of a lifetime and unforgettable memories you will say goodbye to the Pearl of Africa. Depending on the time of departure you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. We are looking forward to seeing you again!
