Uganda has the highest concentration of primate species on the continent, with 15 diurnal and seven nocturnal species listed, and is home to more than half of the world's mountain gorillas. Because of gorillas and chimps, Uganda has become a popular destination for wildlife photographers and naturalists. The Adventure of hiking into the tropical rainforest jungles to see the endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park on Virunga mountains slopes is an experience like no other. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of Uganda’s most important rainforests and is home to over 542 mountain gorillas, and 19 habituated gorilla groups available for the gorilla trekking experience. The best place to see chimpanzees and several other small primates is in Kibale National Park. Kibale is particularly rich in primates, with 13 species present, the highest concentration of primates in Africa. The nine diurnal primates in Kibale include vervet, red-tailed, L’Hoest’s and blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, endangered red colobus, black-and-white colobus, olive baboon, and chimpanzee.
